Many of my experiences, and observing the world at large, has continually shown me that when we break down the barriers to our humanity, all that is ever under there is a desire to contribute, make a difference and be connected.
9/11. The Coronavirus Pandemic. A loved one gets sick or passes away. These things happen, and many people remember what they really care about. This indescribable thing called their humanity shows up.
One day it occurred to me: How extraordinary...the word we use to describe our human collective is "humankind," and in that word is the essence of who we authentically are - wired to care, to contribute, to love and connect. Kind-ness. That day (9 years ago) I purchased the URL for this website.
For years, it stopped there. I kept paying for the URL, and I had no idea what "HumanKind By Design" was. Was it T-shirts? Was it a seminar? Was it a blog? What was it's purpose? What kept calling to me every time I heard the word "humankind?"
Whatever the answers to these questions might be, I started to realize what was being sparked in me was the very thing, itself. My humanity. The one thing I share with every other person on the planet. I finally understood - I don't know what Humankind (By Design) is, I just know it's something to share, inspire and discover.
I'm inviting you to share and discover Humankind-ness. What makes you human(kind)?
I could liken our humanity to the wind - it is very real but you can never grasp it, and when it's present you know it. Although there isn't really an answer to this question, in asking and sharing we bring it alive.
Thank you for sharing here to inspire Humankind-ness. I am honored to be a conduit for your Humankind-ness.
Share your Humankind-ness. A story or experience, something you witnessed, something you saw online, a picture, a journal entry, a poem, something you want to contribute to others. It will be posted on the site within 24 hours.
